Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook

By Dahlia Acevedo

Today we visited Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook in Culver City. I find it hard to believe we have lived in Los Angeles County our whole lives and have never been to this awesome place. When you first arrive you see people walking up the incredibly steep and lengthy hill. Although I felt tempted to do so, I knew I am pretty much out of shape and couldn't possibly handle it. Instead we drove to the top of the hill and parked in the lot. Parking is two dollars per hour or six dollars for the day. The whole place is a scenic overlook offering 360 views of Marina Del Ray (we could see the ocean!), Culver city, and Down Town LA. It was hot, but because of the ocean breeze hikes were tolerable. Every single path we took was short, and lined with lush greenery and yellow wild flowers. In addition, yellow wild flower covered hillsides are abundant. At one point while stopping to take a picture I noticed the mountains peaks were covered in snow.

Oh!, and one very cool feature of this place is it's staircase that begins street level and cuts through the center of the park. It is VERY long, so I do not recommend you attempt climbing it unless you are in very good shape. My husband and son took the stair case down. It seemed like a very fun thing to do, but someone had to drive the car back. As I drove back down the hill I was treated to amazing views of the city once again. I would have loved to take the steep walking path down to street level. When the fam returned to the car they were winded. The descent plus the heat, a tolerable 84 degrees, really zapped them of all energy.

I highly recommend you make a trip out to the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, It is a real gem. Please enjoy the following pictures.

  1. I've never been there. So Baldwin Hills overlooks Marina del Rey. I've never been there either. It's good that you're exploring new places....I'd like to do that ..there are so many places in San Diego County that I've never seen.

Ocean Trails Reserve - Rancho Palos Verdes (Ocean views galore)

Ocean Trails Reserve - Palos Verdes                 By: Dahlia Acevedo Where has this Ocean trail been all my life?! I viewed several posts about the place, as well as photographs, which did not do this place justice at all! We are talking 360 beautiful views of the golf course (which runs parallel to the trail at first), gorgeous homes in the distance, the mountains, as well as constant ocean views. Let me just take a moment to comment on the color of the ocean (really colors), A deep blue with turquoise pools, crystal clear in spots, exposing the algae below (coastline). There are four paths, two that lead down to the beach area, which is completely covered in small, grayish white rocks. Making it totally unique and picturesque. I've never seen anything like it. I've  posted a picture of the awesome looking zig zag trail leading down to the beach. Once you descend, you will see the bottom half of the cliffs are covered in rolling green, gra...

Outdoor Fun For The Whole Family: Bike Riding and Swan Boat Rentals, Lake Balboa (Encino) and Echo Lake (Los Angeles)

Lake Balboa, encino Echo lake, los angeles Did you know there are plenty of bike paths leading to and from Lake Balboa park? And the best part? You don't need to own a bike to enjoy them. This is my second favorite time of the year, Fall, when the trees are beginning to change color. Brilliant orange, red and yellow colors grace the landscape. The weather is perfect, sunny, with a slight breeze (most of the time). Feel like bike riding now?, Inside the park resides "Wheel Fun Rentals". No reservation is required, and you are free to ride outside of the park. My favorite bike path is the one that takes you around the outside of the park, in a complete circle. It affords you beautiful views of the golf course, hills, mountains, and tree lined streets. (It is not for the faint of heart, just a warning).  The second best bike route takes you around half the inside of the park, affording you views of the lake, shimmering bright blue in the sunlight. It takes you into the more ...

11 Tips For Losing and Maintaining a Healthy Weight.

Before I launch into the meat of the blog post, I'd like to remind you that you are a STRONG and DETERMINED individual, who has DEFINITELY got this! I have so much more to say, but had to stop at tip number 11 and go out for a walk. I hope you enjoy the article!  Don't stock your home full of fattening snacks and deserts, bottled juice, soda, sports drinks, etc. This is a given right? You'd be surprised how difficult it is for most people to actually accomplish this. If you live with a significant other or have children, you ultimately wind up purchasing these items for them, and eventually partake. Even though I have really strong will power, and manage not to eat these items most of the time, I am likely to cave when I am under stress, feel exhausted, have a cold, or it is that time of the month. My mother n' law brings home a ton of sweets every time she goes shopping, and my husband tends to bring home chocolate muffins, coffee cake, or one pound bars of chocolate,...
