Outdoor Fun For The Whole Family: Bike Riding and Swan Boat Rentals, Lake Balboa (Encino) and Echo Lake (Los Angeles)

Lake Balboa, encino

Echo lake, los angeles

Did you know there are plenty of bike paths leading to and from Lake Balboa park? And the best part? You don't need to own a bike to enjoy them. This is my second favorite time of the year, Fall, when the trees are beginning to change color. Brilliant orange, red and yellow colors grace the landscape. The weather is perfect, sunny, with a slight breeze (most of the time). Feel like bike riding now?, Inside the park resides "Wheel Fun Rentals". No reservation is required, and you are free to ride outside of the park. My favorite bike path is the one that takes you around the outside of the park, in a complete circle. It affords you beautiful views of the golf course, hills, mountains, and tree lined streets. (It is not for the faint of heart, just a warning).

The second best bike route takes you around half the inside of the park, affording you views of the lake, shimmering bright blue in the sunlight. It takes you into the more extensive grounds of the park, under a cool bridge overpass (down hill ride), and out through to "Balboa Soccer Park" and the orange line bike path, if you so desire. OR, you can continue to ride around the outskirts of the park, which is also nice. All bike paths are clean, well maintained and green. They afford you with a good amount of shade, making the ride pleasant all year round.

Wheel Fun Rentals: Beach Cruisers are just $12 per hour. Tandem Bikes cost $20, Surrey's cost $27, Double Surreys cost $37. They offer an annual pass for $12, which gives you 50% off each bike rental (good for one person only). The pass is good at any of their locations and they are open seven days a week.

Bike riding isn't the only fun thing to do at Lake Balboa Park. Have you seen those adorable Swan boats on the lake?
Wheel Fun Swan Boat Rentals: Just seeing people peddling around on the lake in these adorable Swan Boats puts a smile on my face. They vary in size, seating three to five people, and cost $11 per adult, $6 per child, 17 yrs and under. They are also available to rent seven days a week.

AND GUESS WHAT?, they are also available to rent at "Echo Park" in Los Angeles.  But at night as well! Their boats light up at night and are available starting at sunset. Food is allowed on the boats, so feel free to grab a hot cocoa and snacks at the Beacon Café before heading out on the lake. The weather is perfect for it. Sounds like the perfect date night, am I right?! An annual pass is also available for Swan boat rides, $12, gets you 50% off a ride, and is good at any of their locations.

I actually prefer to take the Swan Boat out on Echo Park Lake. As it has a giant fountain in the center, which makes for a more fun ride, especially during the summer time. It also ads beauty to the park. Then after your peddling workout you can walk next door to the Café and order food.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and can get out to enjoy everything LA has to offer.

  1. Sounds like a dream! I've never taken the swan boats before...maybe we'll have to do that the next time in in town.

Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve: A Vibrantly Colored Slice of Wildflower Heaven

Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve Driving in from the Valencia end, taking the very windy, and long San Francisquito Canyon Rd, instead of the 14 freeway, was refreshing. And, thanks to the recent rains, the endless rolling hills are lushly green!  As you near the poppy reserve splotches of orange poppies, purple and yellow wild flowers begin to fill in the landscape. Until the awe inspiring moment when you finally come around the bend and spy the Reserve in the distance. The multicolored sea of poppy and wildflower blanketed land, with snow capped mountains in the backdrop, really does take your breath away.  Spy the nearby farm with it's unique square patches of orange poppy flowers, that have drawn quite the crowd. And smile at the others who opted to stop and take photographs of the poppy covered hills alongside the road. Me and the hubster poked some fun at the people trying to get easy Instagram photos without putting in any of the work (hiking the paths at the reserve). I highly

"Free Guy" Movie Synopsis and Ratings Guide

PG 13           Violence and Action Throughout, Some Sexual References, and Some Strong Language Guy, a disposable, NPC character in a popular video game, wakes up every morning to his perfectly predictable but pleasant life, where he works as a Bank Teller, and hangs out with his best friend Ron, the security guard. Until one day everything changes, Guy experiences love at first sight with the girlfriend of an armed robber, who holds up his bank. Suddenly all he can think about is a future with this mystery woman. He realizes he can make this happen by getting his hands on a pair of the special glasses he’s seen the bad guys wear. The next time his bank is held up Guy disarms the robber and takes his glasses (which he comes to find give you special abilities and access to cool features within the video game). While roaming around town wearing the glasses, he runs into HER. She teaches Guy that he can accumulate points fast by committing crimes and disposing of o

11 Tips For Losing and Maintaining a Healthy Weight.

Before I launch into the meat of the blog post, I'd like to remind you that you are a STRONG and DETERMINED individual, who has DEFINITELY got this! I have so much more to say, but had to stop at tip number 11 and go out for a walk. I hope you enjoy the article!  Don't stock your home full of fattening snacks and deserts, bottled juice, soda, sports drinks, etc. This is a given right? You'd be surprised how difficult it is for most people to actually accomplish this. If you live with a significant other or have children, you ultimately wind up purchasing these items for them, and eventually partake. Even though I have really strong will power, and manage not to eat these items most of the time, I am likely to cave when I am under stress, feel exhausted, have a cold, or it is that time of the month. My mother n' law brings home a ton of sweets every time she goes shopping, and my husband tends to bring home chocolate muffins, coffee cake, or one pound bars of chocolate,
