Walker Canyon
By Dahlia Acevedo
I'd hoped we'd see more of a poppy / wild flower bloom, being that we visited right after a couple weeks of heavy rain. Despite all that, this gem of a hiking spot did not disappoint, boasting rolling green hills with lovely viewing areas. Although poppies and wild flowers were sparse, they can be seen throughout the park (orange poppies, yellow and blue wild flowers, and purple lupine).
We were surprised to see the place was bustling, with just enough people. For the most part everyone was in good spirits, some even making eye contact and saying hello. Great that it is located right off the freeway and there is plenty of parking.
Once again the hike began with a pretty steep incline and continues upward through the rolling hills. It is challenging without feeling difficult and there were very few children on the trail. I enjoyed watching everyone ascend higher in the distance, and took great pleasure in seeing my son Nicholas spontaneously run up the middle of a steep hill. He couldn't resist and had soon disappeared over it. Which caused me some anxiety I have to admit, but made for a cool picture. (Blog continued below).

McVicker Stairs is a (moderate) 1.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Lake Elsinore, California that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking and is best used from September until June. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. I am discovering this place for the first time. It looks really beautiful with a view of Lake Elsinore from the top.
LAKEPOINT PARK
What a gem! This place is expansive, green and picturesque with the mountains in the background. A walking trail takes you around the park to the playground and picnic benches, that offer views of the lake. The lake is fenced off but beautiful. There is a dirt trail that can be accessed outside of the park, We spied individuals and a family making there way over with fishing rods.
Come enjoy the lake (and perhaps camp out for the weekend), when it becomes safe for us to travel and gather again.
Lake Elsinore is ideal for motor boating, jet skiing, water skiing, wake boarding, kayaking and fishing. It boasts public beaches with picnic and shade features, plenty of safe easy-access parking, a three mile levee for hiking, nature watching and fishing (some areas restricted), and a tournament channel for professional ski instruction and club and pro competitions.
